Philadelphia – Five Drexel players scored three or more goals as the Dragons rolled to an 18-4 victory over Lehigh in a non-conference women's lacrosse game on Vidas Field. Emily Hoesch (Aston, Pa./Sun Valley), Kerry Kelly (Roseland, N.J./West Essex), Gwenna Johnson (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Jessica Bill (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville) and Katie Bradley (Spring City, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) recorded hat tricks as the Dragons ran their winning streak to five games. The win boosted Drexel record to 5-1 while the Mountain Hawks dipped to 1-4 on the season.
Drexel jumped out to a 7-1 lead as Hoesch scored all four of her goals in the first period to pull away from the Mountain Hawks. The lone Lehigh goal was scored when the ball trickled out of Drexel goalie Lauren LaBella's (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) stick and crawled into the goal for an own goal. Lehigh did score before the end of the half as the game went to the break with Drexel ahead, 7-2.
Lehigh opened the scoring in the second half to close the gap to four goals, but Drexel reeled off 10 straight goals to put the game away. Bill scored all three of her goals in the run. La Bella stopped four shots in goal while giving up three goals while Rachael Behrndt (Glenmoore, Pa./Downingtown East) relieved her in the middle of the second half to make three saves and allow just one goal.
For the game, Drexel out shot the Mountain Hawks, 38-15, and won 15 of the game's 24 draws. Hoesch earned a season-high six draw controls in the game while Bradley tallied three draw controls and three caused turnovers.
In their next game the Dragons will host Wagner on Sunday, March 18 at 1:00 p.m.
